The block farmhouse was built in
the corner of a 40 acre pecan orchard in 1946 by Howard Shumock, his wife Leila
Mosley and their children. My father, Kenneth Mosley, who was six years
old at the time also
helped carry the blocks. Kenneth and Louise Mosley purchased the house in 1966 and
moved in with their three children Tammy, Ronald, and Linda.
Ken then soon partnered with his
uncle Howard, buying and selling pecans. They would buy, sell, and crack pecans for
people all around the Mobile area. Howard retired from the company in the 70’s
and Ken moved the business to its current location adjacent to the farmhouse
where they lived and continued to crack pecans for the community.
In 2002 Ken and Louise built and
moved into a new house behind the old farmhouse. Ken and Louise both retired
leaving the cracking to Ronald and Linda. The years had taken a toll on the
pecan orchard as hurricanes Camille, Fredrick and others destroyed a lot of the
trees. However, the old block farmhouse stood strong.
The farmhouse set empty for
several years until Ronald and his wife Stephanie decided to expand the cracking
business to include gourmet pecans and gifts for all occasions. The farmhouse
started taking on new life – fresh paint inside and out, refinished pine floors, and the
restoring of old fixtures has made this a very quaint country gift shop -
Mosley’s Pecans & Gifts. The delicious candied and flavored pecans are just
part of their offerings. In addition to the pecan related gifts, tins, and
baskets, Stephanie is providing a place where people in the community can
showcase and sell homemade crafts. There is one room in the house named
“made-in-the-shade” for these items.
Stephanie has also put together a
wide assortment of gifts ranging from baby gifts to romantic gifts. She has
something for all ages and will continue to add to the gift selections. Keep
an eye on the products category as it will continuously be updated. Please
come visit us and try some of the sample packs of our gourmet pecans. We hope
to see you soon and as the sign above our door states - God bless all who enter.
